Scar Facts : Raised Scar Treatment

For raised scar treatment, many find silicone gel to be effective. Raised scars can be keloids or hypertrophic scars and can often be red and itchy. The discomfort from a raised scar can cause one to seek treatment and relief, even if the scar is not visible to others. An effective raised scar treatment will help flatten, soften and smooth scars, relieve the itching and discomfort, as well as reduce the redness associated with scars.

Silicone is the clinical gold standard for raised scar treatment and abnormal scar prevention. The International Clinical Recommendations on Scar Management recommended silicone as first-line therapy for scar treatment and abnormal scar prevention. (ref 1)

For highly effective raised scar treatment, Kelo-cote® is a patented topical 100% silicone gel for the management and prevention of abnormal scars in the form of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Kelo-cote® features the patented Siliclear Complex, a precise blend of bio-inert and bio-compatible silicone compounds. It is suitable for the use on children or people with sensitive skin. (ref 2,3)

Kelo-cote® forms a bond with the stratum corneum (the outer layer of skin cells) forming a protective barrier against chemical, physical and microbial invasion of the scar site while assisting with hydration. This creates an environment that allows the raised scar to mature through more normalized collagen synthesis cycles, and improves the physiological and cosmetic appearance of the scar.

Kelo-cote® has also been successfully used to manage scars resulting from trauma, burns and surgery. Regardless of the origin of the scar, Kelo-cote® has proven results, as evidenced by clinical studies, and satisfied healthcare professionals and customers from around the world. Kelo-cote® is the most studied topical scar product, with more than 2,000 patients participating in a variety of published clinical studies.

Kelo-cote® Gel is available in tubes of 6g (0.2 oz), 15g (0.5 oz) and 60g (2 oz). Our patented Kelo-cote® Spray, developed for the treatment of larger, sensitive, painful or hard to reach scars, is available in cans of 50 ml and 100 ml. Kelo-cote® has been cleared by the FDA as a Class 1 510(k) medical device. Whether gel or spray, Kelo-cote® Advanced Scar Therapy solutions help to reduce abnormal scars and restore confidence.
